The DVR has changed the way people watch TV. Viewers are in control and create their own schedules. They don’t miss programs any more. In fact, they can record and enjoy content wherever and whenever they want.
The DVR is one of the foundations of NDS Metro, the scaleable end-to-end IPTV solution that is designed to meet your business needs. The success of NDS Metro is based on the fact that it delivers both the content and services that viewers want most.
The NDS Metro IP DVR puts you ahead of your competition with the following features:
- Easy to use. The DVR lets you offer functions such as simultaneous recording and recoding multiple episodes. Viewers can pause, record, playback and fast forward content securely without any drawbacks.
- Compensates for schedule overruns. All programs are recorded at the right time even if schedules change.
- Enhances revenue generating opportunities. Subscribers can book Pay-per-View (PPV) events from promos – and pay only when they watch.
- Secures stored content. Protected services and content are extended to the DVR disk – and other portable devices.
- Flexible platform. Add new services as your business grows: Push Video-on-Demand (VOD), interactive applications, multi-room DVR and IP-based applications.
- Audience measurement. Track and collect audience measurement data directly. Use this for personalized promotion and advertising.
- Reduce time to market and costs. NDS Metro is already integrated with several middleware platforms, a dozen STBs and multiple chipset vendors.
What about low bandwidth networks?
Quality of service. NDS Metro features Progressive Download, a technology developed by NDS to enable operators to maintain quality of service while delivering IP content over low bandwidth connections. With Progressive Download you don’t need expensive VOD services and the high specification networks that are normally required to deliver HD content.
DVR without dedicated storage. NDS Metro also has a solution for STBs without storage. An external drive can be added to the STB’s USB port. This delivers full DVR functionality on low-cost STBs. The NDS Network DVR solution also records content in the headend, thus freeing bandwidth to the home.
