Deliver TV and Video
MediaHighway has been implemented with virtually every network configuration and works with any TV protocol:
- Broadcast environments. Deployed in satellite, cable and digital terrestrial platforms.
- IPTV. Supports both unicast and multicast.
- Hybrid IP/Broadcast. NDS leads in deploying hybrid STBs. By partnering with pay-TV pioneers, MediaHighway powers satellite, broadband, and DTT hybrid boxes.
- High definition. MediaHighway supports HD on all networks.
Presentation engines, interactive engines
MediaHighway supports the widest range of interactive engines:
- Java. A variety of profiles from low footprint to standards like MHP and OCAP. NDS is instrumental in developing standards for DVB groups.
- HTML. From low footprint to sophisticated platforms with features like HTML 4, RSS, DOM and CSS.
- Flash. MediaHighway supports Adobe Flash 6.0.
- Graphics. MediaHighway supports up to 32-bit color with multiple graphic planes.
DVRs and VOD
MediaHighway has been deployed in almost 9 million DVRs since 2001. Its DVR middleware solution includes:
- Trick modes such as pausing a live broadcast and returning to it, as well as fast forward, rewind and metadata that enable subscribers to skip forward and back.
- Special features like buffering, push VOD and conflict resolution when recording.
- VOD is now available on cable, IPTV and hybrid Satellite STBs. MediaHighway supports both streaming VOD and progressive download VOD which enable VOD delivery over any broadband connection.
Home Networks
Convergence means that the digital home is no longer a dream. As new devices for the digital home become available, MediaHighway develops new features. Specifically, DVR-enabled offerings for every room in the house:
- Follow me lets subscribers begin watching in one room, pause the DVR, and go into another room to continue watching on a different device.
- Synchronization to Portable Media Players (PMPs) enables subscribers to record a program on the DVR and watch it later on their PMP.
- USB mass storage allows sneaker network operation to pass content from one DVR to another.
- DLNA and UPnP stream music, photos and video stored on your PC to the STB to be watched on the TV screen.
MediaHighway is convergence. It delivers content anytime, anywhere, on any device.
New features. MediaHighway’s success is due in part to the fact that it meets the needs of its customers by simplifying operations and creating new business models. Options include an advanced Audience Measurement System and targeted advertising.
Character set. MediaHighway supports Unicode, the full range of deployed European character sets as well as Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Korean, and Hebrew.
Technical requirements. MediaHighway is scalable and versatile and has been deployed over different hardware platforms and more than 20 different chipsets with varying memory sizes and peripheral support.
