LONDON, UK – IBC Stand 1.171 – September 4, 2007 – NDS,
the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV,
today announced that ‘yes’, the premier satellite broadcaster
in Israel, has chosen to implement NDS VideoGuard PC™ to secure
and enhance the functionality of its new web-based video content
portal. This represents the first deployment of VideoGuard PC,
the NDS DRM solution designed to securely deliver content directly
to PCs over the open Internet, including video downloads, streaming
content and Video on Demand.
With the implementation of VideoGuard PC, anyone in Israel can
go to the ‘yes’ website, register for the service, and enjoy
content offered by ‘yes’. VideoGuard PC expands the
potential reach of content beyond the set-top box (STB) to include
viewing on the PC. It can also support advanced PC video formats,
including those not currently available on set-top boxes.
VideoGuard PC integrates the current ‘yes’ headend architecture
with standard web technology, easily and economically extending
media reach in the home from the STB to the PC.
By virtue of this deployment, ‘yes’ can increase
the audience for its high value content to embrace PC users.
Furthermore, ‘yes’ can better leverage its investment
in this content because with VideoGuard PC, delivery over the
open Internet remains secure, thereby protecting the rights of
content owners.
“At ‘yes’, we want to extend our brand to reach a diverse
group of customers, while enhancing our offerings for our current
subscribers,” said Itzhak Elyakim, Vice President Engineering
and CTO at ‘yes’. He continued: “NDS VideoGuard PC is the
ideal solution. It has broadened our offerings to include Internet-based
content, and since the implementation uses our existing infrastructure,
we are realizing efficiencies in costs and operations.”
With VideoGuard PC, service providers can deliver content over
the open Internet directly to PCs on which it can be viewed using
popular video players. As well as securing broadcast content,
VideoGuard PC protects advertising-based content, pay-per-view,
time-based video rentals, downloads to the PC, and subscription
services. With the appropriate rights assigned, the consumer
can also copy and move their content to portable devices such
as Personal Media Players (PMP).
NDS developed the VideoGuard PC solution based on common web
standards while enabling the use of existing headend infrastructure.
This unified-headend solution for managing both a PC service
and a Pay-TV platform minimizes costs and helps to streamline
operations.
“Our customers want to provide their subscribers with
the broadest selection of video content possible, and VideoGuard
PC enables exactly that by expanding their offering to include
the many varieties of rich content of the Internet,” said
Joseph Deutsch, NDS Vice President, New Media Sales. “The
NDS VideoGuard PC solution helps our customers to future-proof
their business by enhancing their offerings and reliably securing
their valuable content and service regardless of the context
in which it is consumed – on the set-top box, DVR, PC,
or other mobile device – all from one Unified Headend.
