MUMBAI, INDIA – March 12, 2009 - NDS, the leading provider
of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today announced that
Hathway, the leading digital cable provider in India, has launched
its ground-breaking Digital Box PLUS DVR solution, based on NDS
XTV™ DVR technology. The new DVR solution will enable subscribers
to take control over what they watch and when they watch it.
The NDS XTV™ DVR solution gives Hathway subscribers
the ability to record one television channel while viewing
another one. Subscribers can now pause, record, play back,
rewind and fast forward recorded content for viewing when they
choose. With NDS XTV DVR, Hathway delivers a compelling variety
of content and on-demand digital television to viewers, and
is well positioned to offer additional, advanced, next generation
solutions in the future.
Hathway has a history of firsts in the Indian cable TV market.
It was the first cable operator to move to digital, the first
to implement a middleware solution and customised electronic
program guide (EPG), and is now the first to launch a DVR solution.
This fast adoption of new technologies places Hathway at the
forefront of the Indian pay-TV sector and in a great position
to deploy next generation services such as interactive TV solutions
and an interactive EPG designed in India for the local market.
Mr. K. Jayaraman, Managing Director & CEO, Hathway Cable & Datacom
Private Limited, said, “We are the first Indian cable
operator to launch Personal Video Recorder technology in the
digital Indian cable TV market. This launch further reinforces
Hathway’s vision of being a single point access provider,
bringing the converged world of information, entertainment
and services into homes. New services such as the XTV DVR reinforce
our commitment to remain a market leader by offering innovative
converged services.”
Commenting on the XTV DVR launch, Ms. Sue Taylor, NDS Senior
VP and General Manager Asia Pacific said, “Hathway’s
NDS XTV-powered DVR will radically change the way Indian cable
subscribers view and use content. Hathway continues to prove
that it is India’s leading digital cable provider, by
creating an exceptional viewing experience for its subscribers.
This is the first step towards a fully converged service that
will offer broadband TV and a suite of next generation solutions
to Indian viewers,” she said.
