MUMBAI, INDIA – May 27, 2009 - NDS,
the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV,
today announced that DEN, a leading Indian digital cable TV
operator, has launched an advanced customised NDS
electronic programme guide (EPG) based on NDS MediaHighway® middleware,
to bring an enhanced user experience to subscribers to its
Digitelly platform. The new user interface enables subscribers
to easily navigate and access DEN’s digital pay-TV services.
To meet the high expectations of today’s viewer, the
new EPG on Digitelly is a lot more than simply a guide to available
channels. It includes sophisticated navigation tools and frequent
data changes which supports the promotion of new services.
Content options can be shown on a preview screen which enables
the viewer to scroll through all channels before making a selection.
Subscribers also have the added advantage of choosing to display
the programme schedule by time of day or by date. When using
the DEN EPG, viewers can truly interact with their pay-TV service,
and in the future will have the option to include advanced
features like video on-demand entertainment.
The new EPG ushers in a new era of software power and new
vistas for the subscriber. With its highly engaging interface
and 3D icons representing each application, the new EPG will
surely enrich the digital TV viewing experience.
In March 2008, it was announced that DEN had selected a suite
of NDS technologies to protect and power its digital cable
platform, which included NDS’ market-leading VideoGuard® conditional
access as well as MediaHighway and the NDS EPG.
Mr. Anuj Gandhi, CEO, DEN, commented: “The launch of
the advanced EPG makes digital viewing highly interactive and
compelling. Our subscribers can now navigate and select the
content of their choice with ease and flexibility. This further
reinforces our commitment to redefine the TV entertainment
experience for the Indian digital viewer.”
Ms. Sue Taylor, NDS Senior Vice President and General Manager
Asia Pacific commented, “An effective user interface
can be a critical service differentiator: DEN’s deployment
of a world-class NDS EPG demonstrates their commitment to providing
the best available services to viewers, and NDS is very pleased
to help DEN achieve this goal.”
