What is the graduate program?

For details, please visit the web page which describes this Program.

Where are you based?

We’re recruiting for positions in both our Staines and Chandlers Ford offices.

How many vacancies do you have?

This varies from year to year, but currently we have five vacancies across two divisions.

What degrees are you recruiting from?

Any numerate degree, preferably with some software development experience. We are primarily looking for a potential aptitude for programming, rather than in-depth experience. Computer Science, Engineering, Broadcast Engineering, Sciences, Maths, and Business IT will all be considered.

Graduates with a conversion IT MSc, a relevant MSc, or a PhD will also be considered.

The roles we are recruiting for require the development of strong technical skills, whether in development or testing. Candidates should therefore consider whether they have the skills and/or aptitude for this kind of role before applying.

What languages do you program in?

We’re not looking for experience in any particular language but we have active projects in all the major programming languages: C, C++, Java, PL/SQL, etc.

What training will I get?

As part of the graduate program, you will attend a number of our standard courses in the first month or so to give you an introduction to the industry and the company. Additionally, in discussion with your team leader and graduate coordinator, a suitable training plan will be devised to enable you to attend the most appropriate internal and external training courses. For example, if you’ve joined a team where you will be using C++, and you don’t have much C++ experience, you may be sent on a C++ course. All graduates will regularly spend a day together for more informal training sessions and presentations on aspects of working for NDS. In addition to your formal training you will receive a large amount of on-the-job training, as appropriate depending upon the projects and tasks assigned to you.

How do I apply?

If you are interested in applying for a place on our graduate program, the first step is to complete the application form.

When you have completed the form, please send it to us by email.

The entire process is detailed on the Application Process page.

When will I hear?

Once we have received your application, if we are interested in taking it further, we will invite you to one of our stage 1 assessment sessions. We run these at various times throughout the year.

When will I start?

Our program runs for two years, with various possible starting dates. We aim to group new graduate starters together and start dates are likely to be in the late summer through early autumn of a given year.

When is the closing date for applications?

We have no set closing date although we advise applicants to apply as soon as possible to give you the best chance of being considered.

Can I send my CV?

We will only consider applications submitted using our standard graduate program application form. As this form asks specific questions, it ensures we have all the information we need to assess whether an applicant meets our requirements. If you feel your CV provides additional information, we are happy to accept it in addition to a completed application form. We will not respond to applications submitted via CV only.

What is the dress code?

There is no specific dress code and our offices are fairly informal—you can generally wear what you like. If, however, you have a customer meeting or attend a client site you would be expected to dress appropriately.

Do you accept candidates requiring work permits?

We will consider candidates who require a work permit, but we do have to work within Home Office guidelines.

Do you accept students for placements or internships?

Yes. Please visit the web page which describes our UK Work Placement Program.

How big are the teams/departments I’d be working for?

An individual development or testing team typically has between 4 and 8 members. We don’t like our teams to become too big and impersonal. However, a team never works in isolation and you would deal with people in other teams in your department, as well as people from other areas of the company. The departments you would be joining have between 90 and 165 members and the R&D division in the UK currently numbers 308 people.

Will I get to work abroad?

The roles we are recruiting for are based in the UK, and there is not usually any requirement to travel outside of the UK. However, NDS has offices and customers worldwide, and there may be occasional opportunities to visit these sites. In addition, some parts of the organization travel and work abroad extensively, and it may be possible to work in these areas at some point in your career.
